Details steps of how to grow and maintain your plant

Garlic creeper Botanically known as Mansoa alliaceae or Adenocalymna alliaceae from Bignoniaceae family. Common names are Garlic creeper, Garlic vine, Lasun vel, Lahan bel, Ajo sacha, Amethyst vine, Wild garlic, Forest garlic etc. It is a perennial evergreen flowering vine & it requires trelling or chain like fencing or arbors for growing over it.  

Garlic Vine is one of the most rewarding, flowering vines that you can grow. It can either be described as a shrub or a vine since it produces numerous woody vines from the root that grow upto 2-3 m tall and form a shrub-like appearance. It produces bright green leaves up to 15 cm long. Its compact habitat and pretty continous flowers make it a popular ornamental plant in gardens in the tropics. Flowering twice a year you will find it quite often covered with flowers. Flowers start off purple with white throat and change to a lighter shade of lavender with age. Eventually fading to almost white. You will see 3 different color of flowers at the same time on the plant.


Why it is Called as Garlic Creeper??? 

It is reference with that pungent garlic-like smell when you crushed the leaves of garlic creeper plant.


 What does make it Special???

It is a very common and well respected plant remedy for the pain and inflammation. It is one of the most rewarding flowering vines, bearing beautiful lavender hued bell shaped flowers. This vine serves a two in one purpose of air purification and treatments.

MAXIMUM HEIGHT - It's growth are around 4 to 6 meter of height.

BLOOMING YEAR - It blooms almost 7-8 months in a year, from October to March. Sometime it may changes based on the climactic condition of particular area.

GROWING TIPS - It can grow almost in all type of soil and it can easily grown at any Indian Climatic condition.

  • Plants grow very quickly and should be given a strong support to climb on.
  • For fast growth it needs support, the more support it will grow very quickly.
  • It can grow either in full sunlight or partial sunlight is also okay to grow.
  • For lush green & bushy appearance better to plant it in bigger pot.
  • After 1 month you can transplant it into your permanent location in full bright light condition.
  • It can also grown in bushy condition, if planted in pot and by regular pruning.
  • It is recommended to prune the plant after every flowering period.

PLANT CARE  

LIGHT CONDITION - It requires minimum more than 3 hours of Direct Sunlight. If planted in full shade the flowering frequency will reduced.

WATERING SCHEDULE - Water when the top soil(2-3 inch) feels dry to touch. Always maintain moisture near the root zone.

SOIL TYPE - The soil should be well drained, fertile & rich in organic content.

FERTILIZER APPLICATION - Apply any organic fertilizer once in a month for better health of the plant, apply water immediately after fertilizer application. For more vigours flowering apply any Phosphorus based fertilizer.

PLANT PROTECTION - Do regular pruning of the plant in order to maintain good required shape. Remove dead, infected or damaged plant parts and discard them away from the plants. Generally it is not affected by any pest & disease in case of any insect attack or disease, you can use Neem oil, Eucalyptus oil or Citrus oil spray for primary treatment.


 INITIAL CARE FOR 10-15 DAYS JUST AFTER RECEIVING YOUR PLANT 

  1. Remove the Packaging Materials carefully.
  2. Press the soil in the pot & add additional soil(garden mix) if necessary.
  3. Maintain moisture in the pot, Do not over water it may kill your plant, so make sure that the soil should be dry between watering.
  4. Provide support with stick/moss stick(vine plant) in order to make straight growth, for needed plant only.
  5. Make sure that plants get enough morning direct bright light for 10-15 days & do not go for immediate transplanting(minimum 1 month)
  6. Just prune if any branch of the plant is get damaged in transist.

It grows horizontally. Creepers are plants with stems that grow along the ground, around another plant / on a wall by means of extending stems or branches.

It grows vertically. Climbers are plants with a tender stem that grow with the help of external support. They climb over the other by twine or hook from their leaves & stems.

It depends on the plant varieties and the available space for spreading. In General, a creeper can spread up to 15 meters.

Perennial creepers/climbers are plants that live or grow for a long time (more than a year)

Minimum 3 years needed for a creeper plants to cover 5-10 meter of walls. But it also depends on the Plant care and plant variety.

It is always good to read both together, Creepers grow horizontally, it creeps on the ground whereas Climbers grow vertically by external support by their twine, tendrils, and other supportive structure.

Minimum 4-6hours of direct bright light are necessary for flower plants to produce flowers. The soil should be well-drained, fertile, and organic in nature, the sandy-loam soil is the best soil for flowering plants.

The best Fertilizers are Organic fertilizers & Organic compost, manure to apply to your flowers. Remember Phosphorus based fertilizers are best to produce more flowers. Look at the descriptions of each plant for plant care guidelines.

There are some creepers like Curtain creeper, Elephant creeper, Dolichandra unguis cati, Thunbergia, Passion flower, Wall creeper, Ipomoea etc, are very suitable for making privacy or providing like structure for shade purpose.
